Here’s an interesting bike-related project: Bamboo bikes built in Zambia by a U.S. start-up company for the U.S market. The company offers jobs, training, etc, but also interest-free loans to those able to demonstrate how their business projects will assist the community. The bikes are designed by Daryl Funk of Funk Cycles.

Sometimes these types of projects can sound wonderful but end up very messy–despite the best intentions. I’ll choke back any cynical bile for now, and simply admire the beautiful frame and its possibilities, which include ambulance service and working vehicles!

Apparently 8 "Zambulances" are currently in operation in Zambia
