Elaine, the Giant, and the Seaway…

Elaine joined TTS computraining classes in January of 2011. After many years of spinning, she’d decided to take her fitness to another level, not that she was a neophyte to training. She’s trained regularly with David Snively and has a background in ballroom dance. Perhaps it is her dance training that has taught her to pay attention to the details of pedaling technique, pacing, accelerations on hills, and how/when to change gears. Her hard work during the indoor season paid off as she raised her threshold power by 20 percent!

This year Elaine decided to translate her indoor fitness to outdoor riding, something she’d given up a few years ago, as many of her friends were no longer able to ride! She traded in her 15 year old (heavy!) hybrid and with the help of the friendly crew at Gianella, she was fitted on a brand new Giant Avail road bike. Elaine went all out, new bike, helmet, gloves and cycling jersey!

Today, I had the pleasure of riding with Elaine for almost 2 hours. It was the culmination of several training sessions focused on getting Elaine comfortable handling her new bike. We rode across the Ice Bridge and did an out-and-back workout along the Seaway (with a pit stop at the bathroom, for the coach). It was amazing to watch Elaine enjoying herself and riding with comfort and ease. During the last mile, Elaine ramped the speed to over 30km/hr!

Elaine is always gracious in thanking me for her training session and will ALWAYS end it saying “that was so much fun wasn’t it Michelle?!”

Well today it’s my turn: thanks Elaine! YES, it was so much fun!
