For the past couple of weeks on the TTS facebook thingy we’ve been hinting that a cold serving of revenge was about to be delivered… well, here’s how it’s going down.

El Santo and Blue Demon.. The wrestling reference will become clear if you read on!!

I’m very pleased to announce that TTS is now working with Rajveer and Gurveer Talhan of RGT fitness to provide strength training for cyclists. We’re doing this not only because we like the idea of hurling kettlebells or pulling sleds with coaches named Raj and Gur, we also like what they bring to the table. They come out of wrestling and MMA, and thus they themselves workout in perhaps the most trendy vein of strength training today. But what really impressed me about their coaching is their willingness to develop a strength program alongside cyclists. For the past year they’ve been working with one of my groups of racers and several individuals. Everyone got stronger. This year we sat down and they presented a periodized program that will correspond to the broad periodization that most TTS cyclists will be going through until the spring. In the past I’ve found that the relationship between strength training and cycling program is patchy at best. We’ve taken the exercises we feel offer the most bang for your buck and organized them in relation to programs that build overall strength…for cyclists. This is something that is evolving, and we expect to modify our approach while monitoring the effects of the training in relation to the ability of the cyclists to still perform on the bike.

Cyclist who worries too much about their weight trying to strength train...

This is a rather long way of saying that Raj and Gur have been making TTS cyclists sore all over… and now it’s time for payback!! The strength coaches/wrestlers have agreed to hop on the bikes and be taken through a BRUTAL workout led by someone with skinny arms and shaved legs. The excuses have already started flying!! Gur claims to have a slightly torn miniscus from his last tournament. I told him he sounds like a Masters racer!!! Raj was whining at first but when he saw Gur limping he immediately started practicing his victory salute!

The Showdown at Snowdon takes place Sunday November 7. Stay tuned here or check on our FB thingy for results. In the meantime, here are their bios:
